Oh, the Terrible Twos

My daughter turned 2 last month.

I want to laugh every time someone asks me how old she is because they always seem to do so whenever she throws a tantrum, and I feel like her age is pretty obvious. Oh, the Terrible Twos. You hear about them, but you really don’t know just how bad they can be until you’re in the midst.

Our Terrible Twos started right after Lucy turned 1, and her tantrums are usually over what I pick out for her to wear. She doesn't like certain pants and shirts, and she DESPISES socks. Luckily, letting my little diva pick out her own outfit -- when she's not being indecisive, that is -- helps us avoid those tantrums, and it's fun going out and about with my girl in her mismatched clothes.

I know she’s being a typical 2-year-old, and I know it could be much worse. Sometimes, Lucy is so cute when she has a tantrum that my husband and I can't help but giggle. And, sometimes those tantrums make me want to throw one of my own. But then, she runs up to me with a huge smile on her face, gives me a hug and a kiss, and says, “Mommy!” That makes up for any tantrum my little one can throw at me.

It’s so easy to get frustrated with her, but over the last few days when I’ve reached that point, I’ve thought about what happened to Jorelys Rivera and how I wouldn’t be able to go on if something like that happened to my daughter. That makes these tantrums seem so trite. A for will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at in Canton.
