Is Your Cell Phone Giving You Cancer? Here's How to Make it Not

Add cell phones to tanning beds, the sun, Diet Coke, smoke, alcohol, laziness and a handful of other things that may give you cancer.

World Health Organization officials recently announced that, despite their claim that the past two decades' research proved no adverse affects, cell phones may be carcinogenic.Β 

Cell phone radiation is now listed in the same category as lead, gasoline exhaust and chloroform, according to Cnet.com.Β 

The news, released by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer, was the result of reviewed past studies rather than new discovery, according to this article.

Aside from limiting cell phone use, CNN has released six tips on how to minimize cell phone radiation:

  • Use the hands-free earpiece that comes with the phone
  • Read the instruction manual to see how far away you should hold your phone
  • Avoid using your phone in elevators, buildings, urban areas or while driving to reduce the radiation "hot spots."
  • Text whenever possible
  • Don't wear your Bluetooth unless you're talking on the phone
  • Use the speakerphone
