Gusting Wind, Hail May Create Hazards in Holly Springs

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory through Wednesday, and says isolated thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible.

Hold onto your hats, it's getting windy out there, so windy that the National Weather Service has put out a wind advisory from 1 p.m. today to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Wind will increase from west to east through late this afternoon. The wind has started out from the southwest at 15 to 25 mph. Gusts will be up to 40 mph in heavier showers, which also are a possibility.

The southwest winds have made that 59 degree lunchtime temperature seem a little warmer, but by Wednesday the wind will be out of the west with continued gusts to 40 mph.

Small trees in saturated soils and drought stressed trees may be toppled. If you are driving a high profile vehicle such as a minivan or SUV, expect driving to become hazardous in these gusts.

If high winds weren't enough, isolated severe storms also are in our forecast with damaging wind and hail the main threats. But listen for those tornado sirens, as isolated tornadoes also are possible.

The National Weather Service's Peachtree City ofice said a cold front will move through north and central Georgia today, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the area.

There is enough low level shear for possible isolated tornadoes. The best timing for thuderstorms will be afternoon and into the early evening.

Far north Georgia will have a chance of snow showers tonight, but those aren't likely in Holly Springs and Hickory Flat. However, wet roads and freezing temperatures make the chance for ice much higher.
