Free Home Faces Overcrowding

Four schools could face alternative schedules if they can't find a way to handle the number of students they have enrolled.

is at 109 percent of the enrollment capacity with 334 students enrolled after the first 20 days and four portable classrooms, according to a report from Superintendent Frank Petruzielo released Monday. 

Other schools that face overcrowding are Ball Ground Elementary, Chapman Intermediate and , according to the release. 

Schools are not considered "critically overcrowded" until they reach 140 percent over capacity. Without those portable classrooms, Free Home is at 141 percent over.

  • Adding additional portables
  • Enrollment capping
  • Flexible school weeks, days or years
  • Changing school boundaries
  • Reconfiguring grades and special programs

New schools are planned to open in Ball Ground and Woodstock in 2012.
