Disney Fantasy Arrives in New York Harbor

The new Disney Fantasy has arrived in New York Harbor and is in the final stages of preparing for its maiden voyage on March 31. The Fantasy and its sister ship, the Dream, are generating lots of excitement as the first ships to join the fleet since Disney Cruise Line debuted in 1999.

The Fantasy and the Dream, which set sail in January 2011, are significantly larger than Disney’s original ships, the Magic and the Wonder. They are two decks higher and can carry up to 4,000 passengers, compared to the Magic and Wonder’s 2,400-passenger capacity. And, Disney fans can’t wait to see the new features that will be introduced on the Fantasy. While the ship will have many of the same innovative features as the Dream, including the AquaDuck watercoaster, it will also have a number of enticing differences, especially in its entertainment lineup. There will be four new, original shows, one of which – “Wishes” – has been created especially for teens. In this musical, three teens nearing high school graduation learn life lessons from popular Disney characters such as Mulan, Pinocchio, Rapunzel and Hercules.

A new water play area on the Fantasy, the AquaLab, will feature pop-up water jets, geysers and lots of imaginative apparatus, including Uncle Donald’s leaky rowboat.

Like the Dream, the Fantasy will have an adults-only entertainment district, but the venues will be different. The Fantasy’s district has a European theme, with lounges and bars modeled after a Venetian masked ball, a French boudoir and the London Underground. A new, adults-only area on the top desk, the Satellite Sun Deck, will feature a circular splash pool with a gentle, rain-like spray.

The Fantasy’s home port will be Port Canaveral, FL, and the ship will alternate between seven-night cruises of the Eastern and Western Caribbean. The Eastern itinerary includes St. Maarten, St. Thomas and St. John; the Western itinerary includes Grand Cayman, Cozumel and Costa Maya. Both feature a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s idyllic private island.
