Sequoyah High School
Sequoyah High School senior Victoria Gordon has been named a 2013 Georgia Scholar by the Georgia Department of Education.
To be selected as a Georgia Scholar, a student must be a graduating high school senior who exhibits excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities, and in the home.  The student must present evidence of having carried an exemplary course load in the four years of high school; performed excellently in all courses; successfully participated in interscholastic events of the school or community; and assumed an active role in extracurricular activities sponsored by the school.
The criteria are extremely strict, such that only 115 seniors in the entire state have qualified for this honor.  Each Georgia Scholar receives a seal for his or her diploma.  The School District’s 2013 Georgia Scholars were recognized by the Cherokee County School Board at its meeting on May 16, 2013.

Sequoyah High School Principal Elliott Berman is the District 13 PTA Outstanding Principal for the Middle & High School level.
Cherokee County School District schools, staff and volunteers recently were recognized with District 13 PTA Awards.
The Sequoyah HS PTSA also won first place for Outstanding Local Unit.

Dean Rusk Middle School
Cherokee County School District schools, staff and volunteers recently were recognized with District 13 PTA Awards.
Dean Rusk MS PTSA won third place for Outstanding Local Unit – Middle School.


Hickory Flat Elementary School
Cherokee County School District schools, staff and volunteers recently were recognized with District 13 PTA Awards.  Hickory Flat ES PTA won third place for Outstanding Local Unit – 750 and below.

Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy
Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy Principal Dr. Dianne Steinbeck is the District 13 PTA Outstanding Principal for the Elementary School level.
Cherokee County School District schools, staff and volunteers recently were recognized with District 13 PTA Awards.

Students at Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy signed a banner for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank R. Petruzielo to thank him for their school’s new designation this year as a STEM Academy.  The 963 students celebrated their Spring STEM Expo with an “Attitude of Gratitude” regarding the excitement and new opportunities they have had as a result of the school’s STEM designation.  Principal Dr. Dianne Steinbeck, left, presents Dr. Petruzielo with the banner signed by all of school’s students.

Indian Knoll Elementary School
Indian Knoll Elementary School is one of the top five entries nationwide in the Fuel Up to Play 60 Scavenger Hunt Challenge and will receive a visit to their PE classes from an NFL player. 
The school was the only winner in the Southeast.  The winner was selected by the public through online voting. 
For the challenge, schools needed to film five physical challenges from a set list that included activities such as a student vs. teacher push-up contest.  Indian Knoll’s Challenge is titled “Phoebe’s Mission: Fire Up the Firebirds.”
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an initiative sponsored by the National Dairy Council and NFL to encourage schools to promote healthy eating and physical activity.

Indian Knoll Elementary School teacher Amy Peppers has won the District 13 PTA Birney Butler Outstanding Educator Award.

Mountain Road Elementary School
Cherokee County School District schools, staff and volunteers recently were recognized with District 13 PTA Awards. Mountain Road ES PTA won second place for Outstanding Local Unit – 750 and below.
