The Georgia Department of Education has released its 2013 grades for public schools across the state and Cherokee Charter Academy in Canton has a report card to be proud of.
The DOE assessment is called CCRPI, or College and Career Ready Performance Index.
For Grades K-5, CCA earned an overall score of 81.5, an increase of 5.1 points from the previous year. The school’s elementary grades exceeded Cherokee County School District’s average elementary score of 77.3 and beat the state average of 78.5.

Additionally, Cherokee Charter’s middle school grades (6-8) showed robust improvement by earning an overall CCRPI score of 81.1, an increase of 10 points from 2012. The 2013 score exceeded the state average of 75.
Meanwhile, CCA is proud of its marks in the 2014 8th Grade Writing Assessment. The school’s 8th graders scored a 95.7% meeting or exceeding expectations, up from 93.9% the previous year. The 95.7% score tops the state and county averages and is the highest score of all public middle schools in Cherokee County.

Dr. Scott O’Prey, principal of Cherokee County’s only public charter school says, “I am very pleased with the school's CCRPI results in regards to the increases in achievement between 2012 and 2013. I am especially proud of our 8th grade students and their teachers for the 2014 8th Grade Writing Test results. As we are in the midst of giving the 2014 CRCT tests this week, I am optimistic that we will be able to continue our upward trend in student achievement.”
