Tigers Ready to Jump!

The basketball program at the county's only public charter school is growing by leaps and bounds!

Cherokee Charter Academy in Canton is back on the hardwood for the 2012-2013 basketball season.  It’s the second season for CCA girls and boys in the Cherokee Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball program.  There are more than 200 players on 25 Tiger basketball teams, ranging from 1st to 7th grade (that’s nine more teams and 75 more players than last year). The Tigers hoops stars are assisted by 46 volunteer coaches.

Jon Rogers is the CCA Volunteer Basketball Director.  “I know the boys and girls are excited to tip off their season. We believe team sports are a great way for students to learn about discipline, team work and build lasting friendships with their classmates.  The growth of our program is a direct result of the parents and volunteers that are investing in these young people’s lives.”

Justice Cromwell from Woodstock is playing on one of two 4th grade Tiger teams. He says, “I love playing basketball for my school. You get to make so many new friends!”
