Unemployment Rate in Cherokee Drops to 6.9 Percent

The unemployment rate in Cherokee County fell in July to 6.9 percent. 

The rate decreased from 7.3 percent from June, and is still considerably lower than the July 2012 rate of 7.6 percent. Cherokee clocks in second in the area, just two-tenths of a percent higher than Forsyth's July rate of 6.7. 

Other countywide rates include Bartow at 9.3 percent; Clayton at 10.6 percent; Cobb at 7.7 percent; DeKalb at 8.9 percent; Douglas at 8.8 percent; Fulton at 9.3 percent; Fayette at 7.7 percent; Henry at 9 percent; Paulding at 8 percent and Rockdale at 9.7 percent. 

The metro Atlanta unemployment rate also fell, dropping to 8.6 percent in July. That's a slight decrease from 8.8 in June, and it also remains considerably lower than July 2012 rate of 9.3 percent.

Throughout the region, the private sector added jobs, bring an additional 9,400 jobs to the area in July. However, the government lost 10,800 jobs last month, bringing the overall net of lost jobs to 1,400 in July. 

The increases in the private sector came from: construction at 3,200; trade and transportation at 2,700; education and health services at 1,400; leisure and hospitality at 1,200; information services at 700; manufacturing at 600; and financial services at 300.
