Monterrey Mexican Restaurant

I love Mexican food and eat it at least once a week if not more. There are many Mexican restaurants in the Canton and Woodstock area, but one of my favorites is . It's as authentic as you can get with a salsa that is so good, it's addictive. The restaurant is usually very crowded on the weekends because it's a fun place to meet up with friends and have a great meal or an awesome margarita.

Overview: Monterrey is located in Woodstock on Highway 92. It is a neighborhood spot that serves authentic Mexican food. There is an outdoor patio for enjoying the nice weather and a wonderful bar inside. You can find daily specials during the week. Chips and homemade salsa are served when you sit down. I can eat about four baskets on my own. Monterrey has wonderful Texas margaritas and also caters to vegetarian diets.

Décor: The décor is simple with piñatas and Mexican décor on the walls. Monterrey has a few tables and plenty of booths inside with several tables outside. There’s a full bar to sit, socialize and enjoy great margaritas.

Entrees: The menu consists of the typical Mexican dishes such as tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and burritos. Monterrey has a wonderful plate of nachos with bits of spicy chorizo sausage on top and paired with guacamole, pico de gallo and cheese. You should definitely try their fajita nachos or steak fajitas which are piled high with green peppers, onions, strips of steak and served with flour tortillas, salsa, guacamole, rice and refried beans. For a lighter meal, you can’t go wrong with their shrimp fajita salad. Entrees range from $6 to $10.

Service: The service is quick and friendly. Chips and salsa are never empty and put on the table as soon as you sit.

Hours: Monterrey is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Location: Monterrey is located at 9425 Hwy. 92, No. 184, Woodstock. It is approximately 10 miles from Canton and 5 miles from Holly Springs.
