Great Deals, Tips for Grocery Shopping

Here are the best buys at Publix as well as some nice tips for coupon newbies.

Before going in to the great deals at this week, here are some pointers for you who are new to using coupons and some reminders for those of you who have been doing it forever.

Publix offers buy one, get one free items each week. Shoppers do not have to buy two of the items. If just one is purchased, the price will be half off. Shoppers can and should use two coupons if they are buying two items, even if it is a part of this sale.

If you print coupons, use your back button and print the coupon twice. Rarely are you allowed to do it more than two times per computer.

If you see an item that you use a lot of and want to stock up on it but need more coupons, there are ways to get them. There are coupon service website that you can use as well as eBay. Just be sure to find one that is local so you get the coupons before the sale ends.

Buy what you need and can reasonable use. If you can get a bunch of free items, that's great. Share them. Donate them. If you have 200 tubes of toothpaste in your basement that have an expiration date of 2012, they will go to waste. This makes for fascinating TV, but in real life, its excessive.

Just because a store advertises that an item is on sale does not mean it is a good price. Part of saving money at the market is knowing what the good prices are for items. Patch does this work for you. We go through all of the sale ads and look at many websites and compare prices to keep track of the good deals worthy of stocking up on. These stock up worthy items are the ones we list on Patch.

Watch for manager specials on meat and refrigerated items. Often these are just a few days from expiring and marked half off. As long as you use or freeze it by the date, the food is fine, just costs less.

When you see a coupon online that you can print but are not ready to use it yet, print it anyway. These internet coupons come and go quickly and we have no idea when they will change or get pulled. You are better off printing it now than missing it next week when you try to find it and see it is gone.

Buy a newspaper every Sunday. If you can get to the store early on Sunday, you may be able to get a double newspaper. These specially marked papers have two sets of coupons in them but the price is just for one newspaper. Keep the newspaper inserts with the date of the newspaper written on the outside cover. When you read Patch, you will see the dates of where the coupons you need are located and it will take you just a moment to locate the exact coupon you need.

Come back to Patch and tell us how much you saved by using coupons and sales. We would love to hear from you.
