Overview: I like trying new things and I haven’t had much experience with Irish food, so I thought I would check out in Woodstock.
The Rose Creek Drive location has been occupied by many restaurants over the years, but Donovan's seems to be a popular choice. Jim Donovan and his family brought the idea from Chicago. They wanted to bring Irish tradition to the Georgia area. The horseshoe, a sandwich the family ate back in Illinois, is the main attraction. The restaurant offers traditional Irish pub food.
Décor: The interior of the pub is very inviting. It is a great spot for gathering with friends for a nice meal and some wonderful Irish beer. Donovan's has outdoor seating with booths and tables. There's also an indoor bar. Irish décor covers the walls. The place is bustling with activity and fun.
Entrees: The horseshoe is a popular dish which originated in the late 1920s. It is made of toasted bread topped with a thick slice of ham shaped like a horseshoe, Welsh rarebit cheddar cheese sauce and a pile of homemade french fries. It's a dish worth trying. Donovan's has a wide variety of appetizers including stuffed jalapenos, chicken wings and Irish nachos (a layer of crispy potatoes, ground corned beef, cheese sauce, lettuce, sour cream and jalapenos). It also has a great selection of Irish food, including bangers and mash, corned beef and cabbage and Shepherd's Pie. Don’t forget to try Donovan's cobbler. It’s amazing. The food and atmosphere have made this spot a popular hangout for the locals. Entrees range from $8 to $10.
Service: The service was wonderful. The staff is friendly and on top of things. Even when there's a full house, the staff is always friendly.
Hours: Donovan's is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. to midnight. The pub serves a wonderful breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning. Call for daily specials.
