Celebrate International Beer Day

It's a worldwide celebration of beer right here at home. Celebrate responsibly so you don't end up in Monday's mug shots.

You have permission to celebrate. Today is International Beer Day, a day to appreciate beers from all over the world.

It's true.

International Beer Day is an event that began in 2008, to fulfill the founders’ goal of celebrating the beers and cultures of all nations, “bringing the world together in the celebration of beer.”

According to the International Beer Day website, which provides an hourly countdown to the festivities, there are five key strategies to enjoy the event:

  1. Drink good beer with good friends
  2. Find (or create) an International Beer Day event to attend.
  3. Give the gift of beer
  4. Enjoy beer from other cultures.
  5. Thank your brewers and bartenders.

Easy right?

To make it easier still to join the celebrations, here’s a run down of what’s happening in our community on International Beer Day.

In honor of the event, Bedoes Bar & Grille on Hickory Flat Highway is offering $3.50 Blue Moon and Guinness drafts as well as $12 import buckets which contain five bottles of your choice of imported beer.

Kayson’s Grille on Marietta Highway in Canton has a Domestic Special of Miller High Life bottles for $2 and an Import Special of Guinness cans for $3.

Also, Sidelines on Reinhardt College Parkway is offering $2 Miller High Life all weekend long to celebrate International Beer Day.

“We do this all of the time,” said Chris Taylor, owner of Beef O’ Brady’s on Highway 140 in Hickory Flat when asked about celebrating International Beer Day.

Regular specials at Beef O’Brady’s include $1.25 Miller, Coors, or Bud Light Drafts, $2 Domestic bottles on Thursdays, Buckets of Budweiser or Miller beer on Saturdays and Sundays for $12, and Monday, deemed “pint day,” a pint of beer is just $1.75.

For a larger selection of beers, you might wander into a Taco Mac near you to select from 105 beers on tap and 200 different bottled beers from all over the world.

Additionally, Taco Mac always has a beer of the month and after 5 p.m. on Thursdays, patrons can receive a free pint glass with their beverage.

“He was a wise man who invented beer,” said Plato.

With 278 official celebrations in 138 cities throughout 23 countries,  according to the International Beer Day website, it seems the world would agree.

Whether you drink beer, give beer, or enjoy the company of others to appreciate cultures all over the world for your celebrations, cheers to a Happy International Beer Day.
