Cabela's Plans Expansion into Cherokee

A sporting good store will soon open up shop in southwest Cherokee County.

Cabela's has announced plans to start construction on a 100,000-square-foot facility later this year and open to the public in 2014.

Cabela's sells sporting, hunting, fishing and other items for outdoor activities.

The store will be located in the Cherokee Village development, which is located on the northeast corner of Interstate 75 and Highway 92. The shopping center, located in the Acworth portion of Cherokee County, will be developed by Majestic Realty.

Cabela's is expected to bring roughly 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, most of which are slated to come from Acworth and surrounding cities. 

The store will be constructed in what the company calls its "next-generation layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with museum-quality wildlife displays," according to its press release. 

Along with outdoor products, the store will include a replica of a large mountain, a gun library, bargain cave, boat shop, indoor archery range, deli and fudge shop.

The company will also open a store in Augusta, which will precede its Acworth opening. Both Augusta and Acworth will be the first and second stores to open in Georgia, respectively.
