Aramark Wants To Hire School Custodians

The company that will oversee Cherokee County School District custodians is looking for a few good men and women to hire.

The company the Cherokee County School Board voted to outsource its custodial staff to is looking to hire new people.

Aramark on Wednesday Aug. 14 will hold a job fair for residents interested in becoming custodians or head custodians.

The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cherokee County School District's Transportation Training Center.

The training center is located at 1665 Hickory Road in Holly Springs.

Interviews will be conducted on site for those who are interested in the positions.

The school board in July voted 6-1, with District 1 member Kelly Marlow opposing, to outsource its custodial staff to the national company.

The move allowed Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo to execute a contract with Aramark, which will be around $5.33 million. Petruzielo said the company plans to offer full-time jobs to all 231 custodial positions, which also includes insurance benefits.

The board in June approved a contract with Seasonal Designs to perform grounds maintenance for the school district for $499,980.

The move affected eight employees, two of which chose to retire from the district. The remaining six would most likely be offered positions in other areas of school district operations.

The change is expected to save about $100,000 in the upcoming fiscal year.
