No Boundary Changes Needed for Cherokee Schools
Cherokee County School District staff have no recommendations to change school boundaries for the 2014-15 school year.
The Cherokee County School District will bypass its boundary focus group process this year, meaning no changes will occur for the 2014-15 school year.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo informed the Cherokee County School Board on Thursday during its work session that staff will not have any recommended changes to any of its schools' attendance zones this year.
It marks the first time in over a decade the district has bypassed the annual reconfiguration process.
It also goes "hand-in-hand" with the district not having any critically overcrowded schools, another accomplishment achieved for the first time in 15 years, said District Spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby.
The district's boundary configuration process addresses the impact of new neighborhoods, population surges and whether adjustments to boundary lines need to be made to reduce overcrowding.
The board adopted its latest school boundary changes last November, which added fifth-grade classes to Bascomb, Boston and Oak Grove elementary schools and added the former Chapman Intermediate School facility to the Etowah High School campus.
