Cherokee Educational Foundation Now Accepting Grant Applications

The Cherokee County Educational Foundation is now accepting applications for its IMPACT Grants. 

The grants are now posted on theCherokee County School District's website and applications must be postmarked by Jan. 13, 2014.   

Through public support, the foundation will fund grants of as much as $2,500 per winning proposal.  

The foundation's board has already allotted $5,000 for the first round of awards, which will be presented to winning applicants on Feb. 14, 2014. 

"When I proposed the idea of an educational foundation one year ago, my hope was for our community, especially our business leaders, to begin coming together to provide additional support for our outstanding educators and students… and that hope has been realized," said Cherokee County School Board Chair Janet Read, who serves as an ex-officio member of the Foundation Board. "It’s been an exciting first year for the Foundation, and I’m delighted that we’re now able to award our first ‘bright ideas’ grants.  I look forward to seeing our educators’ creativity and innovation shine through in their grant applications."

Applications may be submitted by district teachers, paraprofessionals and school staff; teams of teachers, paraprofessionals and school staff; administrators; or department heads. 

A committee made up of foundation board members will review applications, which must meet the following criteria: 

• strengthens academics;
• demonstrates a creative and innovative approach to education; 
• provides meaningful and engaging instruction for students; 
• is well thought-out with a long-term benefit; 
• incorporates budget details; and, 
• includes the official application completed in its entirety. 

Applications require a narrative that outlines, among other information: how the project will benefit a defined target population and strengthen education; the project relates to the school’s School Improvement Plan or the district's Five-Year Strategic Plan; the applicant will collaborate with the community; project expenditures and the sustainability of the project if applicable; and how outcomes of the project will be shared with colleagues and the community.  

Grant recipients will be required to attend, or send a representative, to attend both the Making an IMPACT meeting and a meeting to share experiences at the end of the grant cycle, and will also complete a grant evaluation report at the end of the grant cycle.
