Northside Hospital-Cherokee Offers Free Stroke Screenings

Registration is required to get a free comprehensive screening on one of three dates in May.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month, and Northside Hospital-Cherokee is offering free stroke screenings to allow people to more fully understand their risk for a stroke.

Strokes are more prevalent in the southeast, and according to the Georgia Department of Health, 3,775 Georgians died of strokes in 2008. Thirty percent of Georgians who died in 2008 were killed by cardiovascular disease.

Screenings will be offered on May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon, on May 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on May 2 from 9 a.m. to noon.Β

A screening will consist of a risk assessment, blood pressure reading, total cholestorol, glucose, some carotid ultrasounds and a one-on-one consultation with a doctor.
