Go Shopping at the Library

Finish up that last minute summer cleaning by getting some books out to donate to the book sale in August.

How many books can fill a Pods container? Too many to guess. But the Hickory Flat Library is ready to find out just how many when they host their annual “Friends Book Sale” on August 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on August 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“There is a Pod full of donated books in the parking lot so we’ll have a good selection for the sale,” said Megan Height, library assistant.

Sitting outside the Hickory Flat Library on 2740 East Cherokee Drive, the Pod is filled with donated books for the “Friends Book Sale” event.

The sale will offer a great selection of gently used books at great prices said Height, and all profits from the sale benefit the library.

Books will range from 10 cents for some paper backs and children’s books to $3 for hard cover books.

Donations may still be made to the library for the sale.  Book donations will be accepted through August 18 and financial donations are always accepted by the library.

The book sale event is hosted by the organization, a volunteer support organization serving the needs of the library by helping with reading and literacy programs, special events, and community projects.

Approximately 10 Friends volunteers will help run the book sale event said Height.

Members of Friends of the Library have an opportunity to attend a Pre-sale event on August 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Membership is not required to attend the sale on Saturday and Sunday.

Anyone who would like to join Friends and attend the Pre-sale can obtain membership at the door of the Pre-sale event with a $15 donation.

Friends receive informational newsletters, book sale previews, and special event invitations along with the opportunity to help fellow residents.

The Hickory Flat Library has been serving the community since 1993, and holds the books sale event annually.

Remaining books will go to other Cherokee County libraries for their annual sales.

August will be busy with kids going back to school next week, so put the Friends of the Library Book Sale Event on your calendars and be ready to shop.
