'Guns & Hoses' 5K Still Needs Runners

The deadline to register online for the fundraiser will be Friday Feb. 7.

The deadline to register for the eighth annual Guns & Hoses 5K is fast approaching.

Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency will host the 5K, a race in which both the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services will raise money for local charities.

The race will be held Sunday, Feb. 15 at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Participants can register online at Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's website until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. After that, registration will only be taken in person at CRPA's offices, which are located at 7545 Main Street in Woodstock.

Registration is $25, and will rise to $30 after Jan. 31 or on race day. Fun-run registration is $10, and will also rise to $15 on the aforementioned dates.

Participants can choose which team — guns for the sheriff's office or hoses for the fire department — they will represent and a portion of the registration fee will be donated to a local charity.

The sheriff's office will raise money for Sheriff Garrison Charities while the fire department has chosen to support the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch in northwest Cherokee County.
