Windy and Colder After the Storms
Here are the five things you need to know April 12.
1. The storms have passed, although we might see a few raindrops before dawn this morning. Today will be much cooler today with a high of 65 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and it will be windy, thanks to the cold front that led to the violent weather Monday night. There's a wind advisory from noon to 8 p.m., meaning sustained winds of 20 mph and gusts up to 35 mph.
Let us know if the fast-moving storms caused you any problems. Monday night wasn't anything like a week earlier, but that doesn't matter if you're the one hit by a tree. Share storm photos by attaching them to this article (click on "Add photos & videos") or e-mailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. Elementary schools are serving crispadoras with cheese sauce or quesadillas, lettuce and tomatoes, corn, peaches, strawberries and a cinnamon roll. Middle and high schools are serving roasted pork, yeast rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy, and black-eyed peas.
5. Happy birthday to Brooklyn Decker, 24, and Claire Danes, 32. Perhaps slightly more important, today is also the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War with the bombardment of Fort Sumter.
