Racquel Charles, a 2012 Sequoyah graduate, won the Outstanding Interpretation Award for the National PTA Reflections competition for her dance choreography.
Charles, one of six winners, was honored at an exhibition in San Jose, CA. She will get $800, a certificate, medallion and $200 will be donated to the Sequoyah PTA.
Her dance, "True Colors," exemplified this year's theme of "Diversity is..." by showing two girls "come together in as one union," according to her personal statement.
"There are many people who fear being different or unique," Charles wrote in her statement. "What my piece represents is the importance of being who you are."
