Horse Rescued from Hole, Dies

Injuries from the fall proved too much for vets to fix.

Update: A new report said that the horse died en route to UGA and was not put down.

Around 7 p.m. Monday night, Cherokee County emergency responders got a call to Curtis Road in Hickory Flat where a horse had fallen into a hole.

Brittany Holt was riding the horse when she noticed that two of the riders and horses she was traveling with had difficulty crossing part of their trail. When her horse began to cross, the ground gave way and the horse began to sink. Holt told the Cherokee Emergency Services that she dove off the horse, but it began thrashing and got stuck even deeper.

The large animal rescue team from Milton came and constructed an A-Frame to pul the animal out.

Brittany, I am so sorry for the loss of Glory. She is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. I can only imagine how devastated you are. My horses have been my best friends and it would kill me to lose any of them. You and Glory are in my thoughts and prayers.

How heartbreaking. So thankful the rescue team worked so hard; so broken-hearted this ended so sadly. I can't imagine losing our horses like this. My heart goes out to you, Brittany.

I see in the one picture of the horse and owner after the the horse was removed from the hole. Glory was 'standing' and looked okay, owner (Brittany) was petting Glory.. I don't understand why the horse died...

I'm so sad for the family for the loss of Glory...
