Cherokee School District Increases Police Presence

In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy, more law enforcement officers will patrol Cherokee County schools.

The Cherokee County School District has informed parents that it will work with local law enforcement agencies to provide enhanced protection at each one of its school campuses.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Petruzielo sent home a letter Monday afternoon to parents informing them of the district's plans to coordinate with its district School Police Department, the Cherokee County Sheriff's office and city police agencies in Cherokee County to station officers and deputies in and around district schools.

He also notified parents of the district's measures to prevent a tragedy similar to Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings from occuring in Cherokee County.

See the attached .PDF to read the letter.

Each and every school should be able to afford having at least one officer present and best case, with cameras at each entrance, monitored by him and an offsite security company.

I am 100% in support of an armed presence at the schools as well as upgraded security measures. In my opinion, you cannot go "too far" when it comes to protecting our children, even a 1 in a million chance is still a chance I'm not willing to take with my son's life.

It is so very sad that we are here with such a question as this. Should we have law enforcement on school grounds or not? I suppose since we changed our values at home and in the community, we really have no other means of protecting our children than Police at Schools with visual guns on hips. I grew up and raised my daughter in a Country free from this fear and dangers. It was a place you never read about or is taught anywhere in our schools today. It was called America the land of the free it was a Nation founded by the belief of One God. We prayed to Him daily and we sought His guidance. Guess what else......We had guns in our homes not locked up in safes but open where children lived. Not once did a child bring a gun to school, nor did they play with the guns. Oh what a sad day this has become. Yes bring in the law enforcers and the Military if need be. Just save our children. Better yet Save Our Nation.
