CCSD Students Top National AP Exam Average
Georgia has moved to 12th place in national AP test score rankings, but Cherokee students continue to surpass the state and national averages.

Eighty percent of Cherokee County School District high school students that took an Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in 2012 earned a grade of 3 or higher, easily surpassing both the state and national average.
According to an information release provided by county school superintendent Dr. Frank Petruzielo, 2,730 Cherokee high school students took an AP exam in 2012, up from 2,273 in 2011. Additionally, the percentage of students earning a passing grade of 3 or higher increased from 78 percent to 80 percent from 2011 to 2012.
Cherokee's test scores are part of the reason that Georgia moved up one spot in the College Board's AP Report to the Nation rankings to 12th place in the nation. Cherokee students blew past the state average of 53 percent and national average of 57 percent of students passing their AP exams.
Students who receive a 3, 4, or 5 on their AP exam are eligible to earn college credit for that course in high school and will skip the class once they reach college. The Cherokee County School District has seen an explosion of AP activity, going from 400 tests administered in 1999 to 2,730 in 2012. The district offers 25 different AP courses.
