Business Gutted in Morning Fire

Cherokee firefighters were notified of the blaze at Vince Merolla Enterprises, 3440 Sixes Rd., at 5:10 a.m., Battalion Chief David Tilson said.

 

A Sixes Road business that also served as the meeting place for a local church was gutted in an early morning fire.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was notified of the blaze at Vince Merolla Enterprises, 3440 Sixes Rd., at 5:10 a.m., Battalion Chief David Tilson said. The facility also housed River Church.

"When we arrived," he said, "we had about 30 percent involvement. We had two separate collapses on the structure."

Crews are expected to be on the scene until about 9:30 a.m., Tilson said.

"Right now," he said, "we're in the salvage and overhaul mode."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials closed down northbound Sixes Road from Ridge Road to Bells Ferry Road for a couple of hours.
